The country imports about 70000 tons of frozen beef and 55000 tons of refrigerated beef every year, with an import volume of US $500 million and US $220 million respectively. Martin pointed out that next year, the Canadian health department may come to Paraguay to investigate and evaluate the hygienic standards of beef production, so as to open the market for Paraguayan beef.
Martin added that the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak this year has caused a serious impact on the global market, but Canadian beef imports increased significantly in the first 6 months of this year. This provided excellent breathing opportunities for beef suppliers.
In addition, according to the foreign trade report released by the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP), Paraguay's beef export volume in the first nine months of this year was 221700 tons, a year-on-year increase of 6.9%, and the beef export volume was US $818 million, a year-on-year increase of 5.1%.
In terms of export destination, Chile is the largest buyer of Paraguayan beef. Chile's import volume is 299 million US dollars, an increase of 15% year-on-year, accounting for 36.5% of Paraguayan beef exports. Russia is the second largest buyer of Paraguayan beef, but the import volume decreased by 28.4% year-on-year.
